SEASON of CHANGE
Dear Friends of Maytown Center,
This has been a strange winter for us in Kentucky. It has been unseasonably warm for the majority of the days. So much that you forget its winter and wear your light coat outside only to step into freezing temperatures and snow flurries. There are moments I can ignore the obvious signs of winter like the barren trees and go about like we are still in fall. But the truth is the season has changed and it is indeed winter.
Beth and I believe we are in a “Season of Change” at the Maytown Center. Sometimes it is hard to recognize it when there are plenty of great things happening that offer life shaping and changing experiences for the community.
Over the past 11 years God has provided full-time volunteers like Rachel Sapp, Kathy Curtis, and Erin Moore who would “show-up” at the time of need. Now it has been just me working full-time at the Center for close to two years. There were seniors in our community who were instrumental in starting and supporting the Maytown Center. Now many of them have reached the time when their health does not allow them to really participate. The facility always seems to be an uphill battle, but the loss of the basketball gym still hurts.
We have never had a large budget or staff, but always God provided. God is no less the provider than He was in the past. The current struggles have forced us to ask God, “What is going on here?”
As I sought God’s direction a particular verse has come up a number of times for me. It is from the book of Isaiah (43:18-19), in it God says, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing.”
I believe God is doing a new thing in Maytown.
I have approached the Maytown Center Board of Directors and have shared my thoughts and where I believe God is leading us. The decision has been made that we need to look for another organization that would be interested in taking over the Maytown Center. The board hopes to be able to make a decision soon after February 17th.
What that all means—I do not know. What that all means for the Chauncy’s—I do not know. I believe God is asking us to take this step. I trust that it is ultimately in God’s hands.
We may be in a “winter” season, but I must believe that “spring” is not far off. After-all spring is the season of “new life”. The One whom I put my trust in ultimately proved that with the resurrection. There is always hope.
Please pray for this situation as we seek to do God’s will and what is best for our community.
Seeking God’s Direction,
Dan Chauncy
The Alive in the Mountains’ Board of Directors have reached a decision that in order to best serve the community it is necessary for the Maytown Center facility to be owned and operated by another non-profit organization.
Please complete the following questions if your non-profit organization is interested in starting the process of being considered by the board.
Submit your application to the Maytown Center office no later than February 17, 2012.
