More info on the Group experience:
The Maytown Center is a grass root operation that greatly depends on the help of outside work groups to rebuild, refurbish, inspire, assist in programs, help with housing needs in the community, and more. This page is designed to show you a glimpse of their experience and how they join us in trying to impact a community.
This is the Project Hope Group from Pittsburg, PA (6/04). This group is made up of a number of Catholic churches, made up of high school through retired aged people.. They have been coming to Maytown for 5 years (over 25 years in Appalachia). They usually work on 3-4 houses in the county and repair everything from roofs to floors to puting whole additions on to homes. On their last day in Maytown, their tradition is to do a rib BBQ and square dance for the community (all for free!).
This is the Springfield Church of God group from OH (7/04). They are a youth group that has been doing extended weekend trips, to help us out, for 4 years. In this picture, they were joined by a few community members to take down a tree off the back side of our gym. They also often find themselves helping with games and programs for kids.
This is the Grove City College group (PA). They are a group of 6 were helping us for the 3rd straight year. This year they helped put the ground work down for the Friendship Garden, refurbish our trailer for long term volunteers, and Easter week programs for kids. 3/05
